Green Owl Consulting
Green Owl Consulting is a firm that provides accounting, CFO, and hr services to nonprofits and socially conscious organization.
Having worked in accounting for a decade and in nonprofits for nearly half that, I found that I enjoyed the novelty and excitement of project based accounting work.
I also felt passionate about a large number of social and environmental causes and had a strong desire to somehow contribute to the good work I was seeing. And apparently, there’s a limit to the number of hours I can volunteer and the number of dollars I can donate.
I launched Green Owl Consulting in June 2014 as a solution to my desire for fun projects and for helping organizations that are out doing good work.
Accounting, HR, and Operations
The organizations we work with at Green Owl tend to be small or medium in size, often brand new or going through some major change. These organizations tend to need a variety of finance and operations support, so it makes the most sense for us to provide those services to them.
Green Owl isn’t a do-it-all company though. We are not tax accountants or lawyers, so more in depth services may be provided by other firms.
Sliding Scale & Affordability
I worked hard to make our services accessible to the smaller and more budget constrained organizations that often approach us. This means highly customizable rates offered on a sliding scale dependent on budget size and complexity.
I also created a standard, no frills option for organizations that just need the basics and need to get set up quickly.
Values Driven Culture
One of the core beliefs I incorporated into Green Owl is that employees should be well taken care of. And this needs to be evident in all parts of the employee life cycle - from recruitment to separation.
Information about the culture is posted publicly in part to be upfront with potential recruits and other interested parties. But it also serves as an accountability tool.
Compensation philosophy and how pay is structured is also posted publicly. In developing this, I focused on banded tiers and a flatter role hierarchy.
